Do Carbon Credits still have a chance? Can they still be viable for business?
The short answer is yes.
Carbon credits are investments that businesses can make in green companies. These investments help offset the amount of greenhouse gasses that are being pushed into the environment by said company. While this can be viewed as just paying someone off so you can damage the environment more. It is not.
The reason it is not just paying someone off, is companies get to choose the company they invest in. Which means they have meetings, see the presentations of the green company and choose which one fits their business model. Most if not all of these green companies are working in research and development. This means these green companies are working on ways to make green energy, building material, and production methods. Most of the companies who are buying carbon credits are production companies. They are funding the methods that will later improve their company.
People are correct when they point out that companies who are buying carbon credits are not changing anything about their methods, or even trying to change the amount of greenhouse gasses they put into the environment. They are not changing anything yet. However, by investing in green companies who are researching ways to not only make things more energy efficient, but also developing types of green energies that will make energy cheaper to use and easier to obtain. Businesses are first and foremost looking to make a profit. By buying carbon credits they are investing in Read the rest of this entry »

Across the world, trillions of plastic bags discarded and disposed pollute the land and scenery. Americans throw away over thirty-eight million plastic water bottles every year. While drinking water is an excellent way to improve one’s health, the plastic waste that is created as a result is detrimental to all life on this planet. Seventy-five percent of these bottles are thrown away after being emptied even though they can be refilled and reused.
Plastic bottle waste is completely preventable. In fact, it is advisable as well: tap water is actually healthier because it must meet stricter regulations. It is also cheaper than bottled water, which Americans spend $100 billion on annually. Carrying tap water in a reusable bottle does not have the glamor or prestige of purchasing name brand water whenever thirst strikes, but the benefits far outweigh the tiny amount of convenience lost by toting around bottled tap water all day.

Heated floors using radiant heat in cold climates are one of the greenest ways to heat a home. Radiant heat is continuous, which creates a constant stream of warmth, unlike forced air systems that warm air, a substance that retains the least amount of heat of almost any material. Although installing a radiant heating system is among the most complicated and expensive of all types of heating, the benefits to homeowners is long lasting and rewarding.
Radiant heating typically uses gas, oil or wood to heat water that is piped throughout the floor. Although slow to heat up, once reached the maximum, temperatures remain steady, even after the systems have shut down or a power failure occurs.
